Refund Policy

The Short Version

  • Compliance kits and digital downloads: non-refundable. All sales final. Exceptions handled case-by-case at our discretion.
  • Consulting services: deposits refundable before work starts, non-refundable once work begins. Specifics in your engagement letter.
  • Always: if something has clearly gone wrong, email us. We are reasonable people running a small business.

1. Compliance Kits and Digital Downloads

Our compliance kits, templates, workbooks, and other digital downloads are non-refundable once payment is processed and the download link is delivered.

Why: these are digital goods that you can download, copy, and use immediately. Once delivered, they cannot be returned in the way a physical product can be returned. This is consistent with industry practice for digital products.

By completing your purchase, you acknowledge that you are receiving an immediate digital download and that you are waiving any right of withdrawal that may apply to consumer purchases under your local law (including, where applicable, the 14-day cooling-off period under EU consumer law).

2. Discretionary Refunds

We may grant a refund at our sole discretion in exceptional circumstances, including:

  • You purchased the same kit twice by mistake
  • The download link did not work and we were unable to deliver the file
  • The file you received was clearly defective or corrupted
  • An obvious error on our part (wrong product delivered, technical mishap)

To request a discretionary refund, email info@maplenorthit.com within 7 days of purchase. Include your order ID, the email used at checkout, and a brief explanation. We respond within 2 business days.

Discretionary refunds are not granted for these reasons:

  • You changed your mind
  • You did not read the product description before buying
  • The kit does not match a use case it was not advertised to cover
  • You no longer need the kit
  • You found a similar resource elsewhere for free

3. Consulting Services

Refund terms for consulting engagements are set in the engagement letter we send after your scoping call. Our standard terms are:

  • Audits and one-time engagements: deposit (50%) is fully refundable if we have not yet started the engagement. Once work begins, the deposit becomes non-refundable but may be credited toward an alternative deliverable at our discretion.
  • Migration plans: deposit (30%) is fully refundable before kickoff. Non-refundable once discovery begins.
  • Advisory retainers: 3-month minimum commitment is non-refundable. After 3 months, you may cancel with 30 days written notice. No refunds on completed retainer months.

If your engagement letter has different terms, the engagement letter governs that specific engagement.

4. Chargebacks

If you have a problem with a purchase, please email us first. Most issues can be resolved within 1-2 business days.

Filing a chargeback (disputing the charge with your bank) without first contacting us is considered a breach of these terms. Chargebacks may result in:

  • Immediate revocation of your license to use any purchased products
  • A ban from future purchases
  • Recovery of chargeback fees as part of any subsequent collection

We track chargebacks and reserve the right to refuse service to buyers with a history of disputed payments.

5. Currency and Payment Method

Refunds, when granted, are issued to the original payment method in the original currency of purchase. Currency conversion fees imposed by your bank or card issuer are not refunded. Stripe processing fees may not be recovered and are deducted from the refund amount.

6. Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy removes any statutory rights you may have under applicable consumer protection laws. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction with mandatory refund protections (e.g. specific EU member state laws), those protections apply regardless of what this policy says.

If you believe you have a statutory right to a refund that we have declined, contact info@maplenorthit.com with the specific law you are relying on. We will review and respond within 5 business days.

Include in your email: order ID, email used at checkout, reason for the request.
Response within 2 business days.

A note from the founder:

This policy is firm but not unreasonable. The non-refundable stance protects this practice from abuse. The discretionary refund clause exists because real situations come up. If you have a genuine problem, write to me. I read every email myself.
